What to Bring

WELCOME to our Open Door Health Retreat;

As our guest, you are nearing the time of Open Door Health Retreat!  Prepare for RESTORATION and HEALING!!!  Our team anticipates your arrival.  We are looking forward to assisting you with your healing.  It has been noted by many health retreat centers that those who come full of hope, thankfulness, and cheerfulness are always the guests that experience the most lasting health benefits from the retreat.  Although many come with very serious problems, Open Door Health Retreats are known for their cheerful environment and warm staff.

WHAT TO BRING FOR MODERATE AND HOT WEATHER RETREATS:  We recommend that while at the retreat, you wear natural fibers, (mostly cotton, but silk is natural also), as much as possible.  Please remember that we are able to wash your clothes at the retreat house so please pack light.  Here are some suggestions for what to bring:

  • Comfortable walking/hiking shoes with non-slip tread designed for walking on dirt mixed with gravel.
  • Tennis shoes for indoor exercising.
  • Comfortable house slippers and 7 pairs of cotton socks.
  • Easy to slip into flip-flops for walking on the deck to the gazebo where the hot tub is located.
  • 2 pair of sweatpants for after therapies, cool weather, and campfire.
  • 1-2 sweatshirts (we might suggest one be a front-zipper style as they are versatile and removed easily).
  • 2 pair of casual, slacks, shorts, or skirts (light weight for hot weather), with light shirts for outdoor walking, indoor lounging, and casual outdoor dining in hot weather.
  • 1 sweater and one warm jacket for evenings around the campfire. Optional: Lightweight rain slicker, or plastic cover shield.  You might do well to bring an umbrella.  For those who are flying, we supply umbrellas and a rain slicker if needed.
  • Pajamas, slippers, and bathrobe; We supply ankle length hotel-style terry cloth bathrobes for indoor use.  Bring a second lightweight bathrobe for coming and going from the hot tub or sauna.
  • Swimsuit: Men wear boxer style and women are welcome to wear shorts and t-shirt over their suit.      Note:  Please do not bring towels or washcloths – We supply your beach towels and bath towels.
  • Small flashlight with batteries and camera with extra batteries.
  • Toiletries and feminine hygiene products. Hair conditioner.  (Natural non-toxic soap and shampoo are provided).  Note:  It is important that your deodorant, toothpaste, etc. do not contain toxic chemicals such as any derivative of the many types of lauryl sulfates, propylene glycol, etc.  If you need help with this or want to avoid liquids when traveling, we have a small store onsite where you may buy your toiletries.
  • Optional:  Bring a Bible for our short devotional gatherings.
  • Optional: 2 pairs of shorts and hot weather blouse.
  • 1 church outfit for those who wish to attend a church service (this trip is optional, and only for those who want to go).
